Lance Staer began his career in management and marketing in the petroleum sector, culminating in a position of financial analysis and legal liaison for the Australian subsidiary of Esso, the largest company in the world, based in Sydney. Always entrepreneurial in his attitude, he left Esso and established his own company in the dangerous goods transport sector.
Returning to his accounting and legal academic roots in the late nineties, Lance studied postgraduate business whilst also teaching accounting and finance at Curtin University in a sessional capacity. A Chartered Accountant, Chartered Secretary and Chartered Tax Advisor, he completed financial planning and self-managed superannuation fund specialist training through the University of New South Wales. Lance joined the predecessor firm that became Thornburys Accountants & Advisors in 2001 and became Managing Partner of Thornburys in 2007.
As Managing Partner, Lance provides practical advice and creative strategies on all accounting and business services at Thornburys while ensuring that all engagements are performed to the highest standard. He utilises his wide range of professional experience to ensure that clients receive practical and holistic advice in relation to tax structuring, succession planning, superannuation and taxation matters.
Lance has a strong interest in the not-for-profit sector and is the vice chair of the Australian Not For Profit Accountants Network (ANFPAN). He serves on the boards of several companies and non-profit organisations.
Lance is a member of the Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand, the Tax Institute of Australia and the Governance Institute of Australia.
